Frugal "Friday" - The Last Full Week in March 2020

This cute little rock next to the walking path near our home - I love this idea!
Well, the state of Minnesota is officially under Stay-At-Home orders!  We started today (Saturday, March 28), though we have been under partial stay-at-home since the middle of the month.  I am grateful we have internet access, the yard (garden) to be outside in, and plenty in our pantry and freezers.  I am grateful that we, my parents and my husband's large family are all well and able to continue working for the most part.  There is only one branch of my husband's family that is dealing with unemployment, and that only partially.  We are very blessed.

Here are several things we did this week that are frugal:

* We ate all meals at home this week or took lunch.  John is still going in three days per week and I went in one day this past week.  We made corn and potato chowder, Falafel, stir fry, stuffed cabbage leaves, pizza and chicken pot pie this week.

* We also baked two types of cookies and popped popcorn for snacks.

* John was able to bring home some extra fresh produce left for us this week.  He brought home blackberries, asparagus, Brussels' Sprouts, celery, and even a bag tortilla chips.

* Our daughter received a huge statewide theater recognition for her performance in the musical in February.  We received the notice this week.  This allowed her to participate virtually in a special workshop this week with a Broadway theater person.  Very cool!  She is a Freshman (9th Grader) and it is rare that a 9th grader receives this honor.  We are very proud of her.

* We enjoyed music at home this week - both children needed to practice for their respective musical ensembles and our son ended up playing the background piano for our daughter.  Very nice!

* Went for a walk a few times this week.  The walking path was not very used and everyone was keeping proper Social Distancing.   We seemed to the be the only people without dogs that were walking regularly.

*  Worked out at home - John and the children using free online workouts and me using Jazzercise on Demand (JOD).  If you are a Jazzercise member and your center/studio is closed, ask about a free JOD trial!  I am enjoying the variety.

* I did some mending - a couple of fallen hems and tears in two sheets.

* I cut out quilt squares for a gift quilt using materials I had on hand.   I also found material in my stash to make facemasks for ourselves and a few others.  The maternity ward near our church is asking for homemade masks so the N95 commercial masks can go to those more likely to need them.

* Did a lot of ironing and washing this week.  I think all the duvets, slipcovers and curtains are now washed!  Whew!

* We did all the "normal" things including washing and reusing baggies, wearing clothing until they are dirty, and using up leftovers.

What did you do this week that is frugal?
