Frugal Friday - Week of May 10, 2020

My first bouquet from the yard in 2020!  Dwarf Iris - two types.

We had a quiet week this week.  The children had their Advanced Placement (AP) tests, I had finals and getting ready for summer session, and John was working on a lot of upcoming videos for church items.  We were definitely busy  - a quiet busy - this week!

Mother's Day was lovely and we were able to have social distancing visit with my best friend and her husband on Mother's Day.  It was a treat for both of us.  The children had a friend drop off a gift for each of them - belated birthday gifts.  They also had a social distancing visit - their friend sitting in their car and our kids standing on the grass of the yard.  Both were a really nice break for all of us.

Here are the frugal things we did this week:

*  We made scalloped potatoes with ham served with salad, muffins and blueberry smoothies, a sheet pan dinner using sausage, peppers, onions and potatoes, a pork roast with mushrooms and pearl onions served with salad, slow cooker vegetable "fried" rice, homemade pizza, sandwiches, and bagels or toast with cream cheese to eat this week.

* I sewed a button back on a jacket.

* I picked two more bouquets from the yard for our kitchen table.

* We enjoyed books and audio-books from our local public library.  They have been doing curbside pickup and drop off.  We also read books that we already owned.

* A friend who manages a grocery store asked if we wanted two gallons of close-to-sell-date milk.  They are switching brands and needed to clear out the other brand. The food shelf would only take so many gallons so he was calling friends, neighbors and others who might need or want milk.  The milk would go in the dumpster if he could not give it away. We gladly accepted.

* We continued to exercise at home.  The children are continuing dance lessons at home as well.

* I washed curtains from the bedrooms and pressed them this week.

* We continued with outdoor work - cleaning up the front flower beds this week and washing the front and sides of the house with the power washer garden hose attachment we had purchased three years ago. The back is far less dirty and has two nesting birds on the curve of the downspouts so we will wait until later in the year to wash the back.  The front and front of the sides gets very dirty due to the busy, busy road we live on.

* The children used video conferencing software to visit with their fiends. Our son and his friends played a card game via the video conferencing twice.

* As a family, we finished assembling a puzzle we started over Christmas break.  It is a 3D puzzle, so much more of a challenge.  We have been working on it a bit at a time since then. It was nice to finish it!

* My husband and I used note cards we already owned to send notes to friends and family.

What did you do this week that was frugal?
