Frugal Friday - The beginning of November 2020

New dirt in our garden bed - the two baby tomato plants did not make it through our freeze, unfortunately.

Our weather has been so up and down here.  Today we are in the high 30's F (~5C) for temperatures but we have a "stiff" wind today.  That makes it seem much colder when outside!  After a few days of sunshine the clouds today make it feel like real winter, even though it's not quite there yet.

We found out that the new windows for our remodel project are a couple of weeks out so we are on hold with everything for a couple of weeks.  I am okay with that.  It gives us more of a chance to clean things out and work from home.  Once they get started on the windows, we have three to four weeks where we will not be able to work from home easily each week.  I am grateful that we do not need to change things up yet again for a few more weeks.

Here are some things we have done the beginning of November that we felt were frugal:

*  We continued to eat more from our pantry and freezers. Less to store somewhere elsewhere is always a good thing!

* I took advantage of several online sales to purchase the rest of our Christmas gifts. Now, I just need to finish the few things I plan to make and we will be good!

* I sewed two buttons back on shirts and a button back on a pair of pants.  I also mended a pulled out shirt seam.

* My husband trimmed our son's hair using our beard trimmers.

* I made apple crisp using apples that were getting soft.  I also sliced up peppers that were getting soft and froze them for use in stir fry later.

* Our daughter baked cookies for a friend for their birthday - they received two dozen cookies as a gift and were thrilled!

* Our son wrote his Grandmother a letter using stationary we already owned.

* We were able to clean out the garden beds and supplemented the dirt in the beds with compost from our compost bin and chopped leaves.  We had added purchased garden dirt earlier this fall and we will add more purchased garden dirt this next spring.

* We continued to clean out and donated three paper grocery bags of items to our favorite second-hand store.  We received a tax deduction slip in return.

What have you done recently that was frugal?
