Frugal "Friday" - First Week of December

A no-photo edition!

We had a very, very busy week and not much down time at all.  I am so grateful that the bulk of our weekend could be spent at home, except for a birthday party for a friend's 3-year-old and a Worship at church.  We are in the final stretch for the semester for both me and the children and we are expecting company starting this week.  I am hopeful that we can have a restful and enjoyable holiday!

Here are some things that we did this week that might count as frugal:

* We made two types of soup, stuffed acorn squash and pizza at home this week.

* A friend sent home a large jar of soup for our family with my husband.  We used it for dinner the night we received it, rather than using what we had on the menu.  It was delicious!  I will move the planned menu item to this week instead or use it at a later date.

* I was able to take a meal to a friend that had a new baby this week using items I already had in my pantry.  That was thoroughly enjoyable, as we had a good visit and I was able to play with her three-year-old while she was feeding the baby.  Then I held the baby while she played with her three-year-old! That baby is so sweet and the three-year-old is charming.

* Our daughter and I put up Christmas decorations that we already owned.

* Our children made cards for our 3-year-old friend and we used a gift we already had purchased in advance on clearance sale.

* I sewed buttons back on a blouse and a pair of pants.

* I cleaned out several papers from our filing cabinet and shredded those that needed to be shredded and recycled the rest.

* John hung Christmas lights that we already owned on the front of the house with the help of our children.

* We enjoyed a basketball game at our children's school as a family event.

* We attended an open house for the high school our children will attend next fall and feel like it will be a good fit for the children.  I am personally very pleased.

* Our children deep cleaned the guest room and the guest bathroom in preparation for company coming next week.  They look lovely now!

* We have an appointment to have our oven repaired rather than purchasing a new one. It is an electric oven and the upper coil went out on Thanksgiving day.  Replacing the coil is a very small fraction of the cost of purchasing a new oven.  The oven works very well otherwise so it does not make sense to replace it at this point.

* The children chose clothes that they already owned to use as costumes in the school play.

* We cleaned out several clothing items that we don't use anymore and sent them to a second hand store for resale.  We now have much more room in our closets and drawers!

What did you do this week that would count as frugal?
